Jackdaw
Carbon Reduction Plan
Our path to Net Zero.
How Jackdaw will reduce its greenhouse gas emissions from the 2023–24 baseline to Net Zero by 2030 — prepared in line with PPN 006.
Commitment to Net Zero
Jackdaw Sustainability Consulting Ltd is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. As a home-based, one-person consultancy we focus on reducing what we control, and we are transparent about our emissions across all three scopes.
This plan has been prepared in line with the UK Government's PPN 006 technical standard for Carbon Reduction Plans, and reports emissions in accordance with the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard using DESNZ/DEFRA GHG Conversion Factors, with spend-based Category 1 (purchased goods & services) factors from Climatiq (EEIO); full factor sourcing is set out in the Footprint Report. Emissions are reported as carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e), covering the seven Kyoto greenhouse gases: CO₂, CH₄, N₂O, HFCs, PFCs, SF₆ and NF₃.
Baseline & current emissions
The baseline year is 2023–24 — the fixed reference point against which future reductions are measured. It will remain fixed unless a material change in structure, boundary or methodology requires recalculation, in line with GHG Protocol rules. As this is Jackdaw's first Carbon Reduction Plan, the baseline year and the current reporting year are the same; future plans will report the current year against this baseline.
| Scope | Category | tCO₂e |
|---|---|---|
| Scope 1 | Home-office heating (apportioned) & refrigerant | 0.762 |
| Scope 2 | Electricity — market-based (REGO-backed renewable tariff) | 0.000 |
| Scope 2 | Electricity — location-based (grid average), disclosed | 0.118 |
| Scope 3 | Business travel, purchased services, waste, water, T&D | 1.538 |
| Total | Market-based baseline | 2.300 |
Full detail is set out in Jackdaw's Operational Carbon Footprint Report 2023–24, published alongside this plan.
Emissions reduction targets
Jackdaw's targets are aligned with UK national climate ambition. We will reduce emissions at source across our three largest sources on the path to Net Zero.
Emissions boundary
Scope 1 and Scope 2 are reported in full. The Scope 3 categories required under PPN 006 are addressed below, alongside the additional categories Jackdaw reports voluntarily.
| Scope 3 category | Status |
|---|---|
| Cat 4 — Upstream transportation & distribution | Not applicable — no physical goods or freight |
| Cat 5 — Waste generated in operations | Included · 0.089 t |
| Cat 6 — Business travel | Included · 0.767 t |
| Cat 7 — Employee commuting | Not applicable — home-based sole practitioner |
| Cat 9 — Downstream transportation & distribution | Not applicable — no product distribution |
| Voluntary: Cat 1 purchased goods & services | Included · 0.669 t |
| Voluntary: Cat 2 capital goods · Cat 3 fuel & energy (T&D) | Included · 0.000 / 0.010 t |
Completed reduction initiatives
Carbon reduction is already embedded across governance, operations and procurement — a lived practice, not a compliance exercise. Completed since the baseline year:
- Switched electricity to Good Energy — a REGO-backed 100% renewable tariff (completed April 2025), holding market-based Scope 2 at zero.
- Switched from diesel car to petrol motorbike for in-person client meetings where practicable, cutting travel emissions at source.
- Migrated to Google Workspace (email, video calls, cloud storage) from Dropbox and Zoom, consolidating tools and reducing the digital footprint.
- Green web hosting with Krystal — a B Corp on 100% renewable power.
- Carbon Literacy trained and accredited as a Carbon Literacy Facilitator for SMEs.
- Environmental Management System in place — Environmental Policy & Action Plan, Transport Policy, Preferred Supplier Policy, and a Theory of Change with indicators and metrics.
- Digital declutter and GHG-Protocol-aligned measurement adopted from year one.
Planned reduction actions
Planned actions are organised by our largest sources, where reductions genuinely come from. At this scale we set direction and priority; progress is tracked in Jackdaw's EMS.
